The Paranormal Past of East Point
On October 25, 2024, we navigated the East Point Historical Society museum with a paranormal journalist who used advanced detection equipment and video cameras to tap into the spiritual energy in artifacts donated to the society by past residents. Hopefully, many learned a little unknown East Point history along the way.
The event was free and open to the public.
Complimentary Halloween gift bags were given to attendees.
The Pool is Closed
After Palmer’s lecture, she took questions and answers from the audience. Copies of her book were on sale during the event.
East Point Historical Society hosted author Hannah Palmer on Oct. 19 to discuss her new book, The Pool is Closed: Segregation, Summertime, and the Search for a Place to Swim
Ghost Pools Extended
On Saturday, June 3, 2023, Flux Projects presented the official opening of Ghost Pools, a public history and multi-media art installation by local East Point resident Hannah Palmer, on the grounds of the East Point Historical Society.
The exhibit, which originally ran Memorial Day to Labor Day, has been extended until further notice. It explores Atlanta’s history with public swimming pools by creating temporary memorials to two pools in East Point that no longer exist - the Randall Street and Spring Avenue pools.
The June 3rd celebration began at the former site of the Randall Street pool and then moved to the former site of the Spring Avenue pool on the grounds of EPHS.
Ballethnic and Friends also performed during the event.
Party with the Past
East Point Historical Society and the Atlanta History Center recently hosted Party with the Past at Atlanta Utility Works in East Point.
Those who attended participated in games, cold drinks, and fellowship with other Atlantans! There also was programming designed with the history of the venue in mind.
In recent years, the Atlanta History Center has partied at the Fox Theatre, Atlanta Contemporary, Best End Brewing, and Westview Cemetery — to name just a few.
